The Vertex Fellows program is one of our core innovation programs and one of the ways we continually infuse diverse perspectives into our culture and contribute to a scientific community that understands how new therapies are made. We designed it to be a unique, one-year immersive experience, where each Fellow can be a meaningful contributor to a real drug discovery project.

Built on the foundational courses in Vertex University and headlined by a week-long immersion session “bootcamp” that introduces Fellows to the drug discovery process — from early research to commercialization — the program also provides ample mentorship opportunities and access to senior leaders. ​

The program is designed to augment, rather than replace, a traditional postdoctoral, residency or business school experience. David Altshuler, Executive Vice President, Global Research, and Chief Scientific Officer, directs the program in collaboration with many leaders across the company.

Application timeline and details

2025 Vertex Fellows:

  • November 12, 2024: Recruitment process begins

  • November 12, 2024 - January 10, 2025 at 5 p.m. ET: Applications open

  • March 2025: Interviews conducted

  • September 2025: One-year fellowship begins
