Reducing emissions

We are committed to managing our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. We set ambitious targets, closely track our emissions, achieve reductions and report annually on our progress. Our current goal is to reduce our Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42 percent by 2032 (using 2022 as our baseline). We’ve reduced our absolute GHG emissions by 51% since 2014.

Operating efficiently

Vertex is committed to environmental sustainability in our operations and facilities management. 79% of the square footage of our buildings globally are green certified and our new buildings are built to the highest standards of sustainable design. We source 98% renewable energy at our London International Headquarters and our Oxford research site. In total, 50% of our global energy comes from renewable sources.

Minimizing waste

We make strides in water conservation and waste reduction year over year by continually looking for new ways to make our processes leaner and more efficient. We assess our water-related risks and identify opportunities to more effectively manage our water use and improve water efficiency.

We prioritize waste reduction in research and manufacturing, which is our largest source of waste generation. Our newest facility in Boston repurposes more than 80 percent of its medical biowaste. We have also implemented vendor takeback programs to reduce waste across the organization.
