Vertex Foundation Scholarship applications are now open for the 2025-2026 academic year! The Vertex Foundation Scholarship helps people with cystic fibrosis (CF) and their families — including siblings, caregivers, spouses and children — pursue two-, three-, four-year or graduate degrees by offsetting some college or graduate school attendance costs. Recipients receive a one-time award of $5,000 USD/CAD toward the 2025-2026 academic year. Students and families may apply each year they are eligible.

We’re accepting applications through Feb. 24 and encourage you to apply now if you meet the eligibility criteria:

  • You are a legal resident of the United States or Canada.

  • You are or will be a full- or part-time student in good academic standing at an accredited institution in the United States or Canada.

  • You have CF or are an immediate family member — sibling, caregiver, spouse or child — of someone diagnosed with CF.

We established the Vertex Foundation Scholarship in 2017, awarding 643 scholarships to exemplary students to date. We recognize living with a serious illness impacts the entire family, and the Vertex Foundation strives to ease this burden through programs and partnerships that support families. For the 2024-2025 school year, the Vertex Foundation awarded 88 scholarships across 31 U.S. states and four Canadian provinces, enabling recipients to pursue their future careers. This included qualifying students who are studying law, criminal justice, electrical engineering, medicine and more.

In addition to supporting the educational aspirations of so many, this program is uniquely open to immediate family members of someone living with CF, including caregivers, spouses, siblings and children.
