Cell and Genetic Therapies Research and Manufacturing Sites
Boston and Cambridge in Mass. and Providence and Warwick in R.I.
- We currently have R&D space in the Boston area dedicated to cell and genetic therapies at Fan Pier and in Cambridge, Mass. and Providence and Warwick, R.I.
- We have established the Jeffrey Leiden Center for Biologics, Cell & Genetic Therapies, a new state-of-the-art research and clinical manufacturing site at Innovation Square to bring together our industry-leading portfolio of cell and genetic therapy technologies and teams.

Vertex Manufacturing Center (VMC)
Boston is home to the VMC, a 31,150 square foot facility where research compounds are scaled up and medicines are made using first in industry FDA-approved 3-story continuous manufacturing technology.
Oxford, U.K.
- Nearly half of the site is dedicated to 15 different types of labs that focus on high-throughput screening, medicinal chemistry, stem cell differentiation and in vivo pharmacology.
- Oxford was the first of our sites to establish a green chemistry strategy, which enhances the sustainability of our chemistry lab practices across all our sites.

Providence, R.I.
- Our R&D site in Providence, which joined Vertex in 2019, is a 50,000 square foot (and growing) facility that is a key partner for our type 1 diabetes program.
- Ninety percent of our employees at this site are dedicated to research, quality and chemistry, manufacturing and controls (CMC). At the intersection of biology, technology and engineering, our team has expertise in device design, tissue engineering, biomechanics, bioenergetics, process development and more.

San Diego
All of our cystic fibrosis medicines were discovered at this site and it continues to be home for our ongoing cystic fibrosis research program and some of the other diseases in our pipeline, like pain.
Scientists in San Diego record and maintain our global compound library, where more than 2 million vials of medicinal compounds are stored for use in research activities around the world.
